The Quality Council of India (QCI), an autonomous government body, has launched a set of standards for the country's health and wellness industry. After thorough inspections, centres that have passed these new standards will receive QCI accreditation. The goal is to establish credibility of the Indian wellness industry as accredited centres will stand apart from others."Accreditation is the need of the hour as wellness deals with the safety of citizens and any industry which does that needs regulatory control. It will help patients as they can be assured that a centre with accreditation conforms to criteria such as technology, training of staffers, safety and infrastructure,” said Girdhar Gyani, QCI secretary general. He added that QCI plans to conduct periodic checks as well as surprise visits, if it receives a complaint. Leading wellness centres nationwide are now planning to undergo the QCI accreditation process, among them Manipal Cure and Care (MCC), Fortis Healthcare and Reliance Health. The QCI fee for the accreditation is Rs 60,000.
