The Executive Director and the Senior Advisor of the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD), Jennifer Astaphan and Richard Maldavo respectively, visited Belize, holding discussions with Prime Minister, Dean Barrow and technical personnel of the Ministry of the Public Service, Governance Improvement and Elections & Boundaries. The Caribbean Centre for Development Administration (CARICAD) was established in 1980 by an agreement among CARICOM Community (CARICOM) and provides technical assistance to support member governments in their quests to improve efficiency through initiatives which seek to transform and modernize the public sector.

The team also met with John Saldivar, Minister of the Public Service, with technical personnel from the Ministry of the Public Service, Governance Improvement and Elections & Boundaries to discuss plans for CARICAD’s Twenty-Eight Board of Directors Meeting to be hosted by Belize in mid July, 2008.

Belize has been selected as the host and chair of the Twenty-Eight Annual meeting scheduled for mid July, 2008 where all member states shall have representation. Subsequently, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of the Public Service, Governance Improvement and Elections & Boundaries will assume Chairmanship of CARICAD’s Board of Directors for the period July 2008 to June 2009. Belize currently serves as a Board Member and will take over from Trinidad and Tobago who currently serves as Chair.
