St. Lucia's Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister, Senator Allan Chastenet, is hoping that regional leaders will revisit the issue of a single airspace for the Caribbean. Senator Allan Chastenet. Mr. Chastenet called for the matter to be placed on the agenda of the next CARICOM summit in Antigua in July.

Senator Chastenet was speaking in Bridgetown as aviation stakeholders met to examine ways of making inter-regional air travel more cost effective.

He said the issue of a single airspace piloted during last year's Cricket World Cup in the Caribbean must again be explored to allow for harmonized standards for regulations governing air travel in the region.

"We must start looking at this area as one space. We are not losing competition between each other by facilitating the traffic," he said.

The St. Lucian minister said a single airspace will lead to efficiencies in the industry which could then in turn encourage more airlines to consider operating in the region.
